In the early morning hours of July 2, 2026, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center upgraded Tropical Depression 09W, formerly Invest 95W, to Tropical Storm 09W, in view of its increasing organization and maximum sustained winds. Subsequently, shortly before noon of the same day, Tropical Storm 09W was assigned the name “Bavi.”
Current projections place Tropical Storm Bavi as passing through the Mariana Islands as a well-developed typhoon—potentially as a super typhoon—by this weekend or early next week, with likely significant impacts to infrastructure and life and limb across the Marianas. As such, the District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands will be closed beginning on Monday, July 6, 2026, and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on the first work day after an “all clear” is issued by the Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, unless otherwise ordered.1 The CM/ECF electronic filing system will remain online, unaffected by this weather closure.
